Calgary’s Best Hole in the Wall Restaurant – Naina’s Kitchen

Naina's Kitchen Calgary - MerryAboutTown.jpg

Nestled in a tiny strip mall on the access road from Ogden Road to Blackfoot Trail North is Calgary’s best hole in the wall restaurant (in my opinion), Naina’s Kitchen. Naina’s means Grandmother’s in Welsh and they are known for their stuffed burgers and gourmet grilled cheeses. In fact, Naina’s won last year’s YYCBurgerWeek!

On our first visit to Naina’s we decided to try out the Nainalicious stuffed burger since it was the burger that won YYCBurgerWeek. It is stuffed with slices of raw granny smith apple (gives that tangy crunch), pulled pork and sautéed onions and topped with melted cheese. This sweet and savoury combo is to die for. We’ve been trying to avoid eating so much bread so we got our burger sans bun and with salad on the side. OMG delicious! The burgers are HUGE so if you don’t have a huge appetite you can probably share one. Also, if you share it gives you permission to order poutine!

Full of squeaky cheese curds and delicious gravy, poutine is a big hit with our family. Our favorite is the pulled pork poutine. So good! If you can’t decide between a burger or poutine, maybe try the poutine stuffed burger. Yep….it’s a burger full of poutine. YUM! Even without cheese and gravy, Naina’s has some of my favorite fries in town. Super crispy and made from real potatoes (amazing that you even have to say that but you do) they are so good.

Not feeling like a burger? Try the grilled cheese. There are lots of gourmet options filled with all kinds of ingredients. I decided to try the buffalo chicken. Filled with sliced chicken, hot sauce, cheese and bell peppers, it was fantastic.

Evan loves the kids meal choices. His favorite is the mac & cheese. It is super cheesy and topped with chips and goldfish crackers for a bit of a crunch. Even though there are lots of kids options, Evan can’t stray from the mac & cheese.
