July is the perfect time to take a family road trip. School is out for summer so the kids are up for an adventure! Road trips are great. Want to go far? You can. Want to stay close? That works too! Here are three great Canadian road trips to ponder. Will they work for everyone? Nope. However, we bet that they get your road trip planning juices flowing.
- Tofino, British Columbia. Looking for something truly picturesque? Head to Canada’s surf capital – Tofino. Take the ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo and drive along the Pacific Rim Highway. Your family will witness breathtaking views of mountains and lakes, along with rain forest. This area is also known for its trees, which grow to spectacular heights. In fact, some trees are believed to be 1000 years old.
- Haliburton, Ontario. Haliburton is the quintessential summer escape from the big city. Expect to feel the stress lifting as you drive into cottage country. There are several scenic route options to get you there. Don’t worry, all of them will take you by ice cream parlors along the way. Whether you stay for the day or rent a cottage, you’ll want to make sure you stop at Webers in Orillia. It has been a Canadian burger landmark since 1963!
- Quebec City, Quebec. Make sure to play your route so that you can stop in a few francophone villages on your way into the old city. It’s the perfect way to soak up the culture, food and French! After exploring the beautiful and lush countryside, you’ll be thrilled to arrive at your final destination: old Quebec City. It’s a city full of history, architecture, cobble stone streets and endless charm. Perfect for the entire family.
Before you head out on a great adventure, make sure you’re well prepared. When kids are involved especially. You want less “are we there yet?” and more “wow, this is amazing!” Necessities include a GPS system, snacks, sunscreen, first aid supplies and good music!
