If you drive an hour southwest of Calgary, you can travel 60 years back in time to the 1950’s. We found Marv’s Classic Soda Shop a few years ago when we were visiting Etherington Creek campground in Kananaskis. You walk in the front door and there is an ice cream counter to the right and an old fashioned candy store to the left. In the back is the diner complete with pink and black booths, waitresses dressed in 1950’s regalia and a jukebox at each table. The food is standard diner fare with a few twists. They have an old fashioned soda fountain where you can get a kick butt Cherry Coke. Oh and they are famous for their “Elvis Burger” complete with peanut butter and banana and if you order it when Marv’s there he just might serenade you with an Elvis tune. I find the food just okay (though the kids love it). I think most of the reason for that is because I try to eat healthy & that’s really not their forte. Marv’s is a great place to stop if you are heading through the area. Your kids will love it & so will you….it’s a great visit to a bygone era.
You can visit Marv’s at 121 Centre Avenue W, Black Diamond, AB, T0L 0H0. 403-933-7001
