Pokeball Cupcakes for a Pokemon Party!

Pokeball Cupcakes for a Pokemon Party!

Pokemon is a funny thing for me. My brother grew up LOVING Pokemon. Fast forward twenty years and now Evan loves Pokemon. I guess everything old is made new again! Evan would love to have a Pokemon party. Last time he suggested it, though, he asked for me to make each cupcake into an actual Pokemon, like sculpt it with fondant. Um. No. Thankfully, these Pokeball cupcakes are much easier than that! Phew!

Pokeball Cupcakes Tutorial

Ingredients:

  • One dozen of your favourite cupcakes (we opted for chocolate), baked and cooled down
  • Ready-made decorative frosting (we went for red, you can choose white as well)
  • 4-5 oz. white fondant
  • 4-5 oz. red fondant 2-3 oz. black fondant

Tools Needed:

    null
  • Circle cookie cutter, about 1.5 inches diameter
  • Offset spatula
  • Rolling pin
  • Any frosting tip
  • Paring knife

Instructions:

Using an offset spatula, frost each cupcake with a thin layer of the decorative frosting.

Using a cookie cutter to cut out white fondant

Roll out white fondant so that it’s about ¼ of an inch in thickness. Use cookie cutter to cut out 6 circles.

Use a cookie cutter to cut red fondant

Roll out red fondant and cut out 6 circles with the same cookie cutter.

Make 6 red and 6 white fondant circles and cut each in half

Cut each fondant circle in half.

Adding white and red fondant to pokemon cupcakes

Place one red and one white half circle on the top of each cupcake.

Adding black stripe to pokeball cupcakes

Roll out black fondant so that it’s about ¼ of an inch thick. Use a paring knife to cut out black fondant strips, about 3 inches long and 1/3 of an inch thick. You’ll need 12 of them. Place a strip between the white and red fondant on each cupcake, trimming where necessary.

Adding the finishing touch to pokemon cupcakes

Use the bottom of a frosting tip to cut out 12 white circles. Place on the center of each cupcake, right on the black strip.

Tip: The fondant should be sticky enough for the pieces to stay put. However, to keep it extra secure, you can brush a bit of water on the back of each piece before assembling.
