Without Papers Pizza – Where Everybody Knows Your Name….

Without Papers Pizza – Where Everybody Knows Your Name….

We have eaten at Without Papers Pizza more than any other restaurant in Calgary. Why? Well….

Living in the suburbs, I felt like we never had any places that became “ours”. So many of the places we went were utilitarian….the grocery store, the drug store, etc. There were very few places that we went often and even at those places, we rarely had the same person waiting on us more than once. It drove me nuts but I chalked it up to living in a city of a million people.

Then we moved. We decided to move closer to downtown Calgary. There were quite a few reasons for our decision but one of the big ones was to live a more walkable lifestyle. We still don’t walk as much as I would like (it’s a bit cold this time of year) but we do walk WAY more than we did before.

One of the benefits of this close type of community? Well, one thing is that we know about ten times more neighbors here than we EVER knew in our old neighborhood (where we lived for 5 years).

Another is that we tend to visit the same places enough that we now know the people there. (Okay….I’ll admit that I don’t know their names b/c I suck at names but….we know them…ish.)  At our favorite pizza place, they know Evan by name, know he takes art class, know his favorite pizza and know that he likes chocolate milk to drink.

It is AWESOME. We love seeing our favorite lady behind the salad station and the head pizza chef always stops by and says hi. Honestly, it means we will go back again and again. There really is something about going somewhere where they know your name….or at least your normal pizza order.

If you are in Calgary, make sure to check out Without Papers Pizza. It is awesome. Evan suggests that you order the chocolate creme bru bray (aka brulee). No, Without Papers did not ask me to write this nor did they give anything to me to get me to. Just wanted to share. 🙂

As much as I love my suburb, I do wish we knew more neighbors, kinda sad really that most houses on our street are filled with kids and all I've shared with them is the obligatory wave as we drive by. Sounds like you've made your self a home in your burb. Love it.

I agree, Kim. Where we lived before, everyone drove in to their garage in the evenings & out the next morning. You rarely, if ever, saw anyone. It was quite sad b/c I knew there were kids in all those houses. We love our inner city neighborhood so much. Many more people walking, at the parks, at the community spaces, etc.

Love that. We're lucky that we've found the same thing in the 'burbs. I've heard great things about without papers.... :)

I think there are definitely great 'burbs out there....we just weren't in one!

That's awesome! Our local sushi place is starting to recognize us too, we're there once a month or so and now the servers recognize the kids when we come in. It's really great!

It is! i think it makes the kids more well behaved too b/c they know that the person waiting on them "knows" them.

we love living downtown. our street is like a little commune with 6 families and 10 kids. we have barbecues, celebrate brithdays, and just hangout. it's a very "it takes a village to raise a child" sort of atmosphere that is awesome!

I knew I would love it but it has been even better than I imagined. I am so glad we made the move.

So good! If you ever get tired of the pizza (though how could you?), I really like the tomato and mozzarella salad. The fresh basil and spices really make it delicious.
